Fanny

Hello, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Fanny Jean, I’m 42 years old, I’m French and I’ve been living in Antwerp for 15 years.

I’ve been running for a few years now. I started out on an occasional basis, alone or with friends, 2 or 3km 1 or 2 times a week, sometimes 10km at the most…

Later in 2016, 2 years after my 3rd pregnancy, I felt like getting back into running by following a more serious program and joining a local “start to run” group. My progress was rapid and other runners in the group introduced me to trail running.

These races allowed me to discover a completely different aspect of Belgium, and corners of nature that I’d never imagined. I realized just how good these outings were for me and how much energy they brought to my daily life. I then decided to train harder to be able to run longer distances, improve my condition and feel more at ease on these new terrains.

The splendid landscapes we cross during these wilderness races made me want to immerse myself further in the discipline of long-distance and Ultratrails.

It wasn’t easy to adapt to the new discipline of Ultratrail. I had to go through many phases of preparation and adaptation, but today I feel very comfortable over these distances and I’ve completely integrated the discipline required into my daily routine.

This discipline and the organization around these challenges characterize my state of mind. The taste for adventure, mental preparation, the steps to follow, the choice of food, the study of the route and its difficulties, or the choice of equipment and knowing how to test and use it correctly.

It was in July 2020 that I completed my first ultra over 100km, on the Helipad off course, which should have taken place in April 2020 but was cancelled due to the pandemic.

It was following this performance on the Helipad that Tim de Vriendt asked me to join the Belgian team for the Backyards by Satellite world final, alongside Karel Sabbe, Frédérick Hardenne, Benoît Badot, Jeremy Munaut, Sylvain Lejeune, Yvan De Graef, Ivo Steyaert, Merijn Geerts and Nico Van Meulder, among others.

This was my 2nd Ultra experience over 100kms. I lasted 38 hours for a total of 260 km and finished 5th out of 15 participants. I surprised many with my stamina and enthusiasm for this kind of challenge.

This passion is now well integrated into my daily life, and at the same time I manage to maintain the balance I need to have all the availability and energy I need for my work and my family life, 2 important aspects of my daily life that provide me with a great deal of support and encouragement in my sport.
